Four Factors Ayurveda Uses To Determine What Foods To Eat When

Here is what you need to consider when deciding what to eat according to Ayurveda.

First what is your body type? How do you determine this. You could take an Ayurvedic Body Type. I will give you a short cut concept to understand your Ayurvedic Body Type.

  • Are you on the skinny side? This indicates a fast metabolism.
  • Are you prone to getting super hungry at lunch time? This indicates strong HCL. It also indicates this digestive type gets hot easily.
  • Do you put on weight just looking at that piece of cake. This indicates a slow metabolism with small amount of gastric juice secretions.

The  second factor that helps identify what foods you can choose to eat is "how are you feeling today"?

For example, are you:

  • tense or nervous (Vata Imbalance)?
  • agitated, competitive (Pitta Imbalance)?
  • sluggish, depressed, lethargic (Kapha Imbalanced)?

Along with your body type, add how how you are doing on that day. If you are tense and nervous then you would add foods that calm the nervous system. If you are agitated or angry add alkaline foods. If you are feeling heavy and lethargic then add spicy to your meal.

organic vegetables and greens

The third factor to consider when deciding what to eat daily is what is the season. In winter eat heavier foods ,sweet, salty, and sour foods.

In summer, eat lighter foods with taste with sweet, bitter and astringent.
